The Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia is located in Cekin Mansion at the edge of Tivoli Park in Ljubljana. The Baroque mansion was constructed between 1752 and 1755 by Count Leopold Karl Lamberg. After several decades, it was gifted to Ivana Lamberg, who married the master-equestrian Lovrenc Szögeny. His name was Slovenized by the people of Ljubljana and the name of the mansion was changed from Lamberg to Cekin Mansion. The suburban mansion, originally used for the relaxation and entertainment of the lively aristocracy, changed hands several times. The mansion was nationalized after the Second World War. The Museum was housed here in 1951 with its first permanent exhibition in 1955.

The Museum has a mission of the national museum: collecting, preserving, documenting, studying, communicating the material and intangible heritage from the history of Slovenian ethnical territory from the beginning of the 20th century onwards.

Permanent exhibition Slovenians in the 20th Century. The twentieth century was one of the most stirring periods of Slovenian history. Slovenians experienced several states and types of government, survived two World Wars, entered the technological revolution and in our final war, the war for independence, achieved a sovereign state. This political and social framework is the basis of the story told by the multi-room exhibition.
