The city will also captivate you with its beautiful architecture. Bordeaux is a city of art and history and it has 362 historical monuments, ranking second in France, right after Paris. Bordeaux is home to one of the largest 18th-century urban areas in Europe, which is the reason it’s listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the most interesting landmarks is the Golden Triangle or Triangle d’Or. It’s surrounded by three boulevards – Cours Clémenceau, Cours de l'Intendance and Allées de Tourny.

A spectacular city by the river

Is there a city that doesn’t seem spectacular by the river? Bordeaux prides itself on the Garonne, and the Palais de la Bourse looks spectacular from one of the bridges crossing the river. The palace shimmers beautifully on the water and offers a wonderful view. You should also visit the Pont de Pierre stone bridge, which was built in the 19th century and fits in perfectly with the city’s architecture.

Visiting the village of Cadouin

If you want to see the whole wine region, stop at the village of Cadouin, which boasts a medieval market, interesting buildings and, of course, a breath-taking abbey church. The abbey was built in 1115 and became a large centre of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages, since part of the cloth Jesus was wrapped in was said to have been discovered there. Near Cadouin are the Grottes de Maxange caves where you’ll find interesting rock formations – crystals that are carefully lit in a way that they create unusual shapes. Cadouin’s abbey is where you’ll find the Auberge de jeunesse HI Cadouin hostel, where the staff will gladly tell you a thing or two about the village’s history as well.
