Germany’s Southwest is a region of superlatives. Baden-Württemberg is regarded as the sunniest, loveliest and most innovative federal state of Germany. Inventiveness and wealth of ideas are at home in this country. Companies like Porsche, Daimler-Chrysler, Bosch, Audi und SAP are coming from here as well as the popular cuckoo clocks and famous wines.
Stuttgart, capital of Baden-Württemberg, is highly estimated because of its quality of lifestyle. Vineyards and forests reach to the city. Among German cities Stuttgart is open-minded, international and many-sided: successful industry, sports centre, large publishing houses, opera of worldwide renown, South German centre of research and university. Stuttgart’s motto reads: successful because human. In this town 170 different nationalities live and work together peacefully.
No wonder that the German Youth Hostel Association opened especially in Stuttgart the first Youth Hostel with the international profile for guests and program »Home again«. After a basic modernization and extension it was reopened in 2006: The German Youth Hostel Association and Baden-Württemberg have got one more su-perlative.
The Youth Hostel is impressing in every respect. In the top-building with top-equipment in top-location the visitors from abroad surely will feel good and secure.
Already the main entrance conveys the impression of exceptional quality. A lift of glass by which you have an unforgettable view to the city of Stuttgart takes the guests to the large entrance hall. There the tourist point attracts attention. The tour-ist point is a very important part of the international concept »home again«. For the international visitors this counter serves as a meeting point for communication and to get to know each other. They can inform about Stuttgart and environs and book arrangements or programs. All information is in German and English. A leading sys-tem with international known symbols makes the orientation in the Youth Hostel easier.
The staff members at the reception which is opened 24 hours speak several lan-guages. In the bistro as well situated in the entrance hall international food is of-fered. One more attraction of the Youth Hostel are the common rooms They are called by the ten twin towns of Stuttgart. Young people from these twin towns have designed the rooms during an international youth exchange with typical accessories of their countries.
DJH-chairwoman Angela Braasch-Eggert formulated following aims and values while re-opening the Youth Hostel in Stuttgart: »We want to practise community, toler-ance, reduction of hostility to strangers, international understanding and social learning. We wish that our guests are coming as strangers and are going as friends.«
