China – Not Only for Experienced Travellers

From Beijing to Shanghai

We have already written about Beijing and its sights. Beijing is the capital of China and one of the most populous cities in the world. It's a city with a lot of attractions, which Anja has introduced you to in her travelogue, and she didn't just go there, so she wrote a little bit more about Shenzen. And Ana wrote something about the whole of China: an interesting trip titled In a land south of the clouds.

Perfect! Let's say a few things about Shanghai. Shanghai has more than 25 million inhabitants and is a city with a colourful history as well as a strong influence of the West. Many people come to China to experience the feeling of living in one of the Chinese dynasties. This is often associated with water passageways, old buildings, temples, and street food. You can get all this by heading to Zhujiajiao, which is about an hour away from Shanghai. This is a classic old water village and a great trip from the big city. You should also not miss Yuyuan Garden and Cheng Huang Miao City Temple. The Yuyuan Garden surrounds the temple and is beautiful, it is also said to have preserved the feeling of “zen” in the park. The Shanghai Museum will not disappoint you either. China has more than 5,000 years of history, and sometimes Chinese museums can disappoint people despite their rich history. The museum will show you every Chinese era, and it may be good to focus on just one because of the extensive museum. There is also Chinese modern art, which today is also sold for millions of dollars. If you want to see something like this and next to the greatest Chinese contemporary artists like Zhou Tiehai and Ding Yi, head to one of ShanghART's most revered galleries.

Tired of the noisy city? Give yourself a Chinese massage. But let us warn you, this is not for the weak, you may shed some tears in between, but in the end it will definitely be worth it. Or take a walk along Bund Boulevard, where you can taste some food, see some Chinese architecture, or listen to the music of street artists. Enjoy!
