… there comes a day when you’re fed up with it all…, you’re tired of your neighbor’s loud music and of gossiping grannies under your balcony, and when the noise of the car engines on the street is just too much, you need some peace and quite in the heart of nature,… or you’d just prefer hanging out and enjoying yourself. A simple solution is to accept our invitation to the: YOUTH HOUSE IN ŠMARTNO OB PAKI.

The Youth house also offers its facilities for the benefit of the local community as it hosts various organizations (tourist, student, Evening classes, moto-club…), and we also organize events. One of the events that drew a lot of attention in this year was the second summer festival “Summer in a barn 2008”. It was a festival that lasted several weeks and included many events (August 17 Vinko Coce’s concert – the official opening of the festival; August 23 – concert of the group Jararaja; August 30 concert of Grosuplje’s Big Banda with the guest apearence of Elda Viler; August 31 a meeting of folk singers in fiddlers “Eno pesem peti”; September 12 the 20th anniversary of “Strašni Jožeti”, an evening of legends (“ansambel Lojzeta Slaka s Fanti s Praprotna”, “Alfi Nipič in njegovi muzikantje”, Vinko Šimek) – ending the festival).

In the art gallery Dile there were some interesting exhibitions and theme evening (travelling, movie, debates) as well as some presentations. Also we carried on with the established activities: children and youth workshops, sport camps, sculptor’s workshop and lan parties.

The house also has the 'Biblio 24' machine for borrowing books, which the members of the library are all too happy to use.

In the project of broadening our activities we have started reconstructing the “marof” next to the Youth House, where there will be a congress center that will also be able to hold certain events and add some utilities to the sleeping quarters of the Youth House (such as a laundry and a mess hall).

We were also very successful in the second phase of expansion where we got financial support through the European funds for regional development and we carried out the “Youth oasis” project, that includes purchase of land where there will be sporting and camping activities.

We also competed for funds from the Ministry of Education of Republic Slovenia, to adopt the “Mlinarjeva zidanica” which is a cultural landmark and  apart from its renovation it will also offer further sleeping capabilities for up to 12 people.

Oh and… the Youth House is open every day of the year weekdays from non until 8pm, 10am to 8pm on Saturdays and 2pm to 8pm on Sundays, during the summer break we’re open daily from 10am to 9pm.
