Beautiful village of Robidišče

Writing about Slovenia has a special charm. Not only because you write about your own home, but because there's so much to say about this tiny country. This time we'll literally walk through the beautiful sights of the Slovenian Alpine world. I'll write about the beautiful village of Robidišče.

The western most part of Slovenia at the elevation of 650m is where the little village of Robidišče is located and is the border stone between Slovenia and Italy. It's part of Breginjski kot in a valley stretching from Kobarid to Breginja. There are ten villages in the valley all sticking close together to their old centres under the mountain of Stol. Caught between the Roman world, Furlanija, Venetian culture and legacy with Slovenian background the villages developed their own identity.

When you arrive to Kobarid you'll be 17 kilometres away from this Robidnica. You continue towards Staro selo and Robič. There's a traffic roundabout in Staro selo and you should take the second exit and go past Potoki and Borjana. In Borjana there's a side road toward the hamlet of Podbela. From here on there's a rising winding road that will take some 10 minutes for you to get to the final destination.

In this idyllic village you'll find an eco-farm. They will invite you quietly to come and hang out. Their main activity is milk and dairy products. Kmetija Robidišče offers you to visit their home restaurant as well, where they'll make you a real regional treat. With a glass of wine in hand and a beautiful view of the local tall peaks – Kobariški stol, Muzce and Kanin, the time will stand still.

The farm is suitable for family visits with children. They can freely run around and spend the day in the company of animals that you get to see on the farm. For young and old there's always something to do here. It's also a great starting point for many bicycle trips to visit the local hills. You can also visit the romantic Italia just across the border and I'm sure most women will not be able to turn down such an offer.

You can really do many things here. You can join the master and he'll be glad to teach you the newest methods of eco-farming, dairy produce and you can even become a cowhand, watching the pastures. But if you're more into discovering history, you can visit the 300 year old Vanč's house. You'll get to see the history of the village, which is best represented through the few people who actually live here.

The interior is untouched and you can see the black kitchen as part of the original organization of spaces. There's a low open fireplace of typical Mediterranean style along with the interior that's preserved and is really rare to find such a piece of living history in Slovenia.

The hose is a museum today and apart from all the mentioned things you also get to see a collection of gadgets and tools that were part of everyday life, and also the photos of 1951 that the etnographical museum contributed.

Robidišče is a place where beautiful nature, good people and rich history, along with the present that offers many ways to spend quality time and learn. You can visit this charming village any time.

The closest hostel is in the nearby Bovec and it will allow you to explore Robidišče and other interesting places around it.
