The Mediterranean Forest Development and Conservation Center of Lebanon (MFDCL)
Location:
Managed by the Association for Youth Hostes ans Environment (HEY), MFDCL is located in a small forest in the village of Ramlieh in the Aley District, Mount-Lebanon, at an altitude of 800 m. The Center is 40 km from Beirut, 12 km from the Beirut-Damascus International Road, 20 km form the city of Aley and 7 km form the Al-Shouf Cedar Reserve. It is located in the middle of Mount-Lebanon.
Characteristics:
MFDCL has a building of two floors, which has an old Lebanese architecture style. It includes conference rooms equipped with all the necessary facilities to hold training courses, lectures, workshops, etc. like LCD projector, overhead and slide projector, TV and Video; a lobby used for the permanent exhibition for environment and conservation; 22 double furnished bedrooms, a cafeteria where women from the local community serve only Lebanese traditional food, and a library that includes environmental references as well as non-timber forest products locally produced.
Moreover, the area, where MFDCL is located, is rich in Flora including pine trees, oak, cypress, maple and others. The area has also numerous fruit trees like peach, plum and fig in addition to aromatic and medicinal plant species like thyme, lavender and rosemary. These plants, in particular, are used by the locals in the small food industries.
