First low-energy consuming wooden youth hotel grows in Ravne na Koroškem
Ravne na Koroškem (until World War II ‘’Guštanj’’) is one of the 12 regions of Koroška and lays on the lower areas of the river Meža, under the mighty Uršlja mountain and represents an administrative, economic and cultural centre of the Mežiška valley. Ravne represent the heart of Koroška and are located in the middle of a geographically diverse landscape and forest dominated nature which enchants every visitor. The beginnings of tourism go back to the 19th century and the natural treasures and well-kept infrastructure of the town and surrounding areas enable a series of unforgettable experiences.
Ravne can praise themselves with several well-preserved natural treasures which fascinate experts as well as occasional visitors. There are endless possibilities for cycling, hiking, mountain climbing and rafting. The preserved cultural heritage is also rich and diverse. Several monuments are documents of time and tell stories about life by the river Meža and the hillsides of the Uršlja mountain and the surrounding hills. Through time the legends of Koroška, the writer Prežihov Voranc and monumental steel statue sculptures (Forma viva) left their marks on the area. The town Ravne is also famous for its hundreds of years old iron and steel tradition which was accompanied by the development of an excellent sports infrastructure (Sports park Ravne). It is impossible not to mention the timelessly valued natural mineral water, extremely rich in iron which springs from the Rimski vrelec (Roman spring).
