Christian Andres Torrico from Argentina was the lucky winner of Hostelling International’s 100th Anniversary Competition. Out of nearly 1,100 entries, the jury chose Christian’s photo for best describing "My Best Hostel Experience". The photo was taken during a hostel excursion in the Andes organised by Hostel Mendoza Internacional in Argentina.Christian was awarded a trip of a lifetime; a gift voucher with STA Travel worth GBP £2000.

The competition was organised to celebrate the 100th anniversary of hostelling. www.hihostels.com visitors were asked to share their best hostel experience, either as a short story, a photo or a video.
In total 589 short stories, 456 photos and 24 videos were sent to Hostelling International. Looking at the entries, it is clear that the hostelling experience is mostly about meeting new friends, discovering new places and making lifelong memories. These were the most common themes.
