Why it Pays to Have the Youth Travel Discount Card

If you’re between 15 and 30 years old and like to travel then you’ll find this article quite interesting. I would like to present you the Youth Travel Discount Card. I only learned about it a year or so ago and I regret I couldn’t benefit from it before. So, what’s it about anyway?

Content

The Youth Travel Discount Card brings together more than 70 thousand members in Slovenia and offers over 60 thousand discounts in both Slovenia and other 38 European countries. In Slovenia, the card is the product of a tie-up between two organisations that are active primarily in areas of mobility and activating youth and move it towards social responsibility activities. These two organisations are Zavod Mobin and Hostelling International Slovenia. With a unified card young people can benefit from discounts of either of the two organisations. You can order your card at Zavod Mobin’s website here or visit their office in Ljubljana, but you can also order it on Hostelling International Slovenia’s website here.

The card offers a number of benefits, but I’m going to list 7 reasons why I think the card is awesome:

  1. Since I frequently travel by plane, I often have to think about how to get to the airport. With the card I get 10% off all GoOpti transfers.
  2. When in Slovenia or abroad, I get at least 10% off per overnight stay in hostels that are part of the Hostelling International network.
  3. When abroad, I often like to spend the remaining time before the airplane takes off or before going back home for sightseeing or some quick shopping. Sometimes the question of where to put all the luggage arises, since it’s quite impractical to walk around the city or browse shelves in a shop with a suitcase and a backpack. I’ve now found a solution to that. I simply browse the Nannybag website and check in which hotels, hostels and shops I can safely store my luggage. And the card gives me a 10% discount.
  4. I’ve been a customer at Delavska hranilnica for quite some time now. But ever since I own a European Youth Card, I now also have the DH EYCA youth account package. I received a Maestro debit card with a logo of the European Youth Card and a special graphic layout that also includes my identification number. If I were a student, I could also benefit from a free bank account, but since I’m fully employed, I pay for my account package half as much as I’d be paying for an account and online bank services per month. You can read more about this here.
  5. I save up on admission prices in Slovenia and abroad with my card; I got 40% off at the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana, 33% off at Plečnik House in Ljubljana and free admission to the Slovenian School Museum, as well as numerous other discounts. You can read more about it here.
  6. Another great thing with this card is the discount on creating personalised postcards and greetings cards. I often make a great photo on my holidays and then post it on social media. But why not send that very photo as a postcard to my parents, grandparents, relatives and friends? Or maybe send it as a birthday card to my friend? All that is now possible with a simple click and an app installed on my phone while benefitting from a 25% discount to boot. If you decide to do the same, let me tell you that new users can send their first postcard for free through Globetrotter profile with the HIGlobetrotter promo code. You can read more about it here.
  7. What’s best is the many discounts are gathered in a single card. Everyone’s surely tired of all the cards different shops offer. The Youth Travel Discount Card gathers all the benefits in one place – a single card with which you can use as identification at the counter or upload on your phone. Claiming benefits and cumulating discounts is therefore much easier.

If you were convinced by any of the above reasons and would like to enjoy the many benefits of the Youth Travel Discount Card as well, you can order your card by filling out an online application form.
