Slovenia is considered to be a skiing country and Slovenians, a skiing nation. This is surely obvious from several important international competitions that are organised in Slovenia in the period from December to March – from the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in Rogla in mid-December, the Golden Fox World Cup in giant-slalom and slalom for women on Pohorje in Maribor at the end of January, the Vitranc Ski World Cup in Kranjska Gora in mid-March to the Planica World Cup Ski Jumping Final at the end of March in Planica.
Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, Rogla (17 and 18 December 2011)Within the framework of the Rogla Cross-Country centre, tracks for recreational and competitive cross-country skiing as well as the start/end area are organised. The restoration and supplementation of the existing cross-country tracks system provides an opportunity for the implementation of the most demanding international competitions. In the 2011/2012 season, Rogla will host a Cross-Country Skiing World Cup event for the third time. On 17 and 18 December 2011, this popular skiing centre and recognised climatic health resort will gather the world elite in cross-country skiing.
Zlata lisica, Pohorje in Maribor (21 and 22 January 2012)On 21 and 22 January 2012, the Pohorje venue in Maribor will again host the already legendary international Ski World Cup for women – Zlata lisica, which has been organised annually on Pohorje since 1964. The excitement during the competition of the best slalom and giant slalom contestants captures each of the 20,000 visitors who come to the arena of the Snow stadium under Pohorje; moreover, the vicinity of Maribor only additionally contributes to the attractiveness of the competition for locals and other visitors.
