Hiking Baška grapa

RAPAL BORDER
Mountains over Podbrdo are well known among many hikers by the exceptional fauna, however many of them don’t know they are hiking in the area of a former border between Italy and former Yugoslavia.

ALL-DAY TRIP up to 8 hours 

Start: Podbrdo (it is also possible to arrange the start at Petrovo Brdo or Soriška planina)
Destination: Podbrdo (Petrovo Brdo or Soriška planina)
Duration: up to 8 hours
Difficulty level: the path takes you through well settled trails and bridle paths, however the tour is more suitable for prepared hikers (because of the length).
Equipment: suitable footwear (mountaineering boots) and a pocket torch (bunkers); your own food and drink (in a rucksack)
Description of the route: the guide will wait for you in Podbrdo. From here you will climb an old road to Petrovo Brdo. On Ava there are some objects of the lower station freight ropeway that is directed toward Kovce and further toward Možic. From the old road the path branches off towards the Hoba homestead. This tract is an old military supply trail. It is one of the nicest parts of the path and shows most of the objects that have been used once for supplying of the border. You will climb up to the iron bunker at the top of the Mt. Lajnar and thereupon to Slatnik, where there are some visible remains of the ropeway station. From here the guide will take you to a barrack and a bunker – observation point at Možic. Besides visiting all well preserved objects you will also enjoy the picturesque view of the Baška Grapa valley and surrounding mountains. The descent will take you to the mountain saddle Vrh Bače where there are some of the most interesting bunkers or fortresses and also the main and a small boundary stones, hidden in the forest. You will return to Podbrdo (or Petrovo Brdo or Soriška Planina) through the village Bača.
