Ireland’s 2 newest YHA Hostels!

In 2007, An Óige opened its brand new hostel, the 5 star Errigal Hostel, in Co Donegal and it celebrated its first birthday in July of this year!

It is once again becoming on the most popular hostel in the An Óige chain and if you have ever visited the hostel then you will know why!Situated at the foot of Mt Errigal, the highest peak in Donegal, the hostel has been completely re modernized and is now a 5 star hostel with all the usual hostel facilities and a few extra thrown in for good measure!

The Hostel is very popular with hikers and nature lovers especially as it is situated at the foot of Mt Errigal and as it is on the Usher Way. It is also very close to the Glenveagh National Park where you can explore the many walks and trails set across the 14000 acres of the Park. Just a 10 minute drive from the hostel is the seaside village of Bunbeg. Boat trips to Tory Island can also be arranged.

There are plenty of activities to do in Errigal and the surrounding areas from hill walking, fishing, horse riding, boat trips, cycling and so much more so you will never be at a loss for something to do! The Dunlewey Centre situated directly across the road from the Hostel, offers trips on the Dunlewey Lough. This area is a walking lover’s paradise with endless rolling hills, loughs and hidden rivers just waiting to be explored!

As well as Errigal YH celebrating its birthday this year, we also opened the doors to the brand new and improved Knockree Hostel in April of this year!

The new edition to our Hostel Chain is a 5 star hostel with 76 beds. Most of these rooms are en-suite. Knockree Hostel also boasts family rooms, conference facilities, self catering facilities and many more. On top of these usual hostel features, Knockree also boasts a deluxe double room, which we have dubbed the ‘Honeymoon Suite’! The hostel also boasts stunning views of the Glencree Mountains.

The Knockree Hostel is situated on the Wicklow Way, making it the perfect place for those interested in hiking to come and visit! Attractions nearby are Powerscourt House and Gardens, the National Sea Life Centre, Bray Waterfront and Wicklow’s Historic Gaol. Enniskerry Village is one of the prettiest villages in Ireland and is also well worth a visit if you are visiting Powerscourt House.
