Commemorative coin and special issue of a stamp in honour of “100 years of youth hostels“

Only on rare occasions favoured commemorative silver coins, worth 10 €, are de-signed and issued yearly in Germany. 2009 DJH was proud to be selected for its an-niversary of “100 years of youth hostels“.

Encounter, community, tolerance – these terms are associated with the origin of hos-telling since 100 years. That corresponds accordingly with the edge lettering on the coin. The triangular-shaped motif is oriented towards the logo of DJH and hints at the global expansion of the movement with its origin in Germany. The above mentioned items have been presented to the public solemnly on 14 August 2009. “Coin and brand  - both stand for the considerable sociopolitcal significance of youth hostels in Germany“, uttered Bernd Dohn, national executive of DJH.

The stamp, worth 0,55 €, refers to “The young on the move“ – another central con-cern of youth hostelling.
